Past Meetings

1/12/2011 51 MAIN AT THE BRIDGE
Several of us weathered the storm to hear Bill McKibben (http://www.billmckibben.com/) an environmentalist and writer.  Bill spoke global issues related to climate change, a topic that he wrote the first ever book about at age 27.  He also shared how YPs can get involved through 350.org (http://www.350.org/).  It was a great opportunity to speak with a world renowned expert in his field.

12/10/2010 HOLIDAY PARTY
In lieu of a December meeting, we held a holiday party at our founder's home in Middlebury.  26 members and guests were in attendance.  The celebration consisted of food, drink, and a yankee swap.

Much sought-after gifts included a machete, various alcoholic beverages, and a sham-wow.  Everyone had a great time and we hope this will be an annual event.

11/10/2010 - JACKSONS ON THE RIVER
We celebrated the 1 year anniversary of Addison County Young Professionals at Jacksons on the River (http://www.jacksonsontheriver.com/) overlooking the Otter Creek on Bakery Lane in Middlebury.  Chris English and his staff were gracious hosts providing us with a banquet table in the secluded space upstairs and our own customized menu.  Although we were not able to line up a speaker, we had plenty of house keeping and networking to do.

We started with the all important introductions and welcomed a few first time attendees.

The group discussed the Better Middlebury Partnership (BMP) Chili Contest on March 12th, 2011.  BMP is looking for volunteers to staff the event and asked if ACYP would be interested in entering the amateur category.  We have several months to plan for this and will keep it on future agendas for further discussion.

We then discussed the potential of participating as a team in the Relay for Life on April 29th, 2011 as ACYP did last year.  Again, this is not for some time but the group needs to begin seeking donations if we want to have a good showing at the event.  One member has connections through Middlebury College with students that put on the event and will follow up with details.

Bill McKibben, our January speaker, was the next topic.  He is an environmentalist, writer, and one of the dozen most influential men of 2009 according to MSN (http://www.billmckibben.com/).  Bill will present on environmental issues.  We may need a larger than normal venue for this event and the search for a venue will begin shortly.

Our February meeting will tentatively feature a presentation by a local nutritionist on preparing healthy meals for small families and singles.  The location of this meeting is also still in the works.

The December meeting will be on Friday 12/10/10 and double as a yankee swap holiday party at the home of one of our members.  For details please email vt.acyp@gmail.com.

Finally, we created four sub-committees in an attempt to be more efficient and consistent in our second year.  Committees include: Promotion / Membership, Meeting Planning, Events / Volunteer Planning, and Technology.  These committees and/or their chairs will update the group during our monthly meetings going forward.

We had another well attended meeting (17).  Thank you to all who attended and we look forward to seeing you at the Holiday Party next month.
